Meet Yiorgos Kaloudis, a remarkable individual hailing from the enchanting islands of Crete and Corfu. With a rich musical heritage coursing through his veins, Yiorgos proudly represents the 4th generation of Cretan Lyra players on his family's Cretan side, and the 3rd generation of cellists on his Corfu family's side.
A consummate professional, he is not only a renowned cellist but also a masterful Classical Cretan Lyra player and esteemed professor of violoncello and chamber music at the prestigious Athenaeum Conservatory in Athens. Since 1993, Yiorgos has mesmerized audiences worldwide as an improviser, performer, and composer, showcasing his extraordinary talents through captivating recordings and live concerts.
His profound admiration for J.S. Bach's Cello Suites led him to ingeniously enhance the traditional Cretan Lyra, adding a fourth low C string, thereby enabling him to interpret Bach's masterpieces and compose his own music.
This innovative instrument, accompanied by the refined techniques Yiorgos developed, is a testament to his unwavering passion and quest for musical perfection.
