A groundbreaking research

To introduce a new instrument in the classical music community is a bold task by all means.
A prodigious, almost herculean effort of selections, transcriptions, adaptations and arrangements needs to be done in order to create new repertoire.

There is such an incredible volume of music in the classical repertoire, that one needs to do exhaustive research and meticulously select what sounds best on the Classical Cretan Lyra.

Yiorgos Kaloudis is at the moment working on writing the scores of:

  • J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites for the Classical Cretan Lyra,

  • Early music repertoire

and the Classical Cretan Lyra Method.

NEW RECORDINGS

1. “LA REVEUSE” - Early Music on the Classical Cretan Lyra

The next step on repertoire expansion will be focused on Early Music

Early music is a broad musical era in the history of Western art music

It generally comprises of Medieval music (500–1400) and Renaissance music (1400–1600), but can also include Baroque music (1600–1750).

For the past six years, Yiorgos Kaloudis has been collecting and selecting Early Music repertoire, transcribing and arranging scores for solo Classical Cretan Lyra.

NEW COMPOSITIONS

THE CLASSICAL LYRA IN THE HANDS OF CLASSICAL COMPOSERS

Any new instrument that aspires to be included in the tradition of Classical Music, needs technical impeccability and playability, sufficient repertoire, but also new performers and composers to bring it to life.

Yiorgos Kaloudis has been working constantly on that department, to make the Classical Lyra a worthy successor of the Classical heritage.

It is therefore of great importance to communicate this vision to contemporary classical composers, to inspire them and engage their talents, ideas and music, and create the world of the Classical Cretan Lyra!

Throughout history, artists and music innovators have inspired composers who have then contributed with their work to the blossoming of the repertoire of instruments and players.

Yiorgos Kaloudis is already composing music for Classical Cretan Lyra but a variety of musical styles and inspirations to enrich the diversity is absolutely needed.

To import Classical Cretan Lyra in the classical music halls, composers need to be assigned with the task of writing music such as:

• Chamber music for Classical Cretan Lyra
(solos, duos, trios)

• Classical Cretan Lyra & Church organ

• Classical Cretan Lyra & Mezzo-soprano

• Classical Cretan Lyra & Choir

• Concertos
